The Principal Director General, National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Faridabad invites applications from Indian citizens for the online written exam for issuance of a license to act as a Customs Broker under the Customs Brokers Licensing Regulations (CBLR), 2018. The regulations are available on the official website and also at the website of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

About NACIN
NACIN is a training institute established by the Central Govt. of India under the aegis of the Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance. It provides in-depth in-service training to Govt. Officers of various departments, including Customs, Service Tax, Central Excise, anti-money laundering, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), etc.Eligibility requirements for Customs Brokers Exam
You should be an Indian national with a valid PAN Card and have a valid Aadhaar number to be eligible to appear for the Customs Brokers exam. You should not be adjudicated as insolvent and should be in sound mental health. Other requirements are as follows-Educational Qualifications: You should be a graduate of a recognized University. You should also have a professional degree such as a Master's or equivalent degree in Accounting, Finance or Management, CA/MBA/LL.B./ACMA/FCMA or Diploma in Customs Clearance work from a Govt.-recognized institute or university or you should have minimum 2 years of experience in transacting Customs Broker work as a G-Card holder. Note that in case the applicant is a company, the director/partner/authorized employee who will handle the Customs work should fulfill these criteria.
Financial Health: You must have financial viability, for which you should be able to show a certificate issued by a Scheduled Bank or any other supporting documentary proof that is acceptable to the Principal Commissioner of Customs or Commissioner of Customs, applicable, in terms of possession of assets of the value of not less than Rs. 5lakh.
Legal disputes: There should be no criminal proceedings against you in any Court of Law; nor should you be convicted by a competent Court for any type of offense. Also, you should not have been penalized for any offense under the Central Excise Act, the Finance Act, the Central Goods, and Services Act, and the Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act.
Retirees: You can apply for the license if you are a retired Group A officer from the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) with at least 5 years of experience in Group 'A' service and fulfill the other eligibility requirements.
About the Custom Brokers Exams
Those who fulfill the above-mentioned eligibility requirements have to appear for a written exam and those who are successful will then appear for an oral exam. Both exams are conducted by NACIN.The syllabus of the Customs Brokers written exam will be as per regulation 6(7) of CBLR, 2018. There will be questions related to the procedure for assessment and payment of duty, preparation of Bills, examination of goods at Customs Stations, the procedure for assessment and payment of duty, conversion of currency, provisions of various Acts, knowledge of regulations under the Customs Act and other Allied Acts, etc. You can answer the questions either in Hindi or in English.
How to apply for Customs Brokers Exam
You can submit the complete application either personally or by Registered Post/Speed Post (do not send by ordinary post) in Form-A that is available at the official website, mentioning your mobile number, email ID and other personal details as required, along with the following documents-- Two passport size photos
- Self-attested documents to support citizenship, such as Aadhar Card or Passport, or Voter ID Card.
- Self-attested documents to support Educational qualification
- Self-attested documents to support Financial viability
The completed application and required documents should be submitted to the Principal Commissioner/Commissioner of Customs/ Commissioner of Customs (Prev.) having jurisdiction over the area where you intend to carry on the business, from 18th October 2022 to 18th November 2022 up to 6 p.m.
Key dates after application
The names of the applicants who are eligible to appear in the written exam will be displayed on the notice board and/or website of the respective Commissionerate by 8th December 2022.Details of the Roll Number, Admit Card download link, and the exam venue will be made available on both websites, namely CBIC and NACIN. Admit cards for the Customs Brokers exam will also be sent by email to eligible applicants 12 days in advance before the date of the written exam.
The Customs Brokers written exam is scheduled for the month of March 2023 (exact date and timings will be indicated later on the official websites). On successfully passing the written exam, you will appear for the oral exam, for which a separate communication will be sent.
