A good workman never blames his tools

The title statement is a corollary of a common saying.

Please explain the statement with suitable examples either from your own experience and/or with current events and happenings. The category and sub category under which this thread is posted can give you some hints and explore more and bring more views this can be a good and effective discussion for the time being in this forum. Especially when the activity in the forum is tapering to near NIL.

Venkiteswaran sir, the title is fine but your reference to category and subcategory is a bit confusing. Can you be clearer?

    Yes, let us discuss.

A good technician will understand the issue well and do the needful using the required tools. However, a technician who never understands the issue tries to say that the tools available are not good enough. Generally, a person who is not competent to attend to an issue will try to blame somebody else for his failures.
The candidates who lost elections will try to impress on others that he is very good but the other candidate did malpractices and hence he lost. Otherwise, he will blame the EVMs. In Andhra Pradesh, YSRCP lost elections and won only 11 seats. The Party President said that he was doubting the working of EVMs. But he forgets the mistakes committed by him and his party during their rule.
Politicians always use the trick of blaming others for their failures.

Yes a perfect worker is prepared to accept any challenge and find a solution wisely and timely. We should never rely upon others for our success.

I have seen poor teachers always complaining about students. When they are not able to mould a student, they blame students . Even in a workplace we experience this problem
Such people cannot yield any result and end with failure.

Tools are to help a good worker who knows which tools are to be used where. A person having good knowledge of his work can get the benefits of all the tools available.
But one, not knowing what to do would blame the situation, circumstances, and tools for that.

    Knowledge is power.

The author is correct. Those are telling like that that is blaming the tools for his poor performance has been well notified in Tamil as, 'aadha theriyaadhaval medai konal endraalaam' that is a dancer with poor knowledge blames her stage as it is not perfectly designed'.
Similarly we as a technician should possess all tools in a tool kit without saying this is not available that is not available etc., My father used to say to keep all writing instruments in a box during our school time so that we should not offer excuse for not having this and that.

A classic proverb! "A good workman never blames his tools" suggests that:

    1. Accountability: A skilled worker takes responsibility for their work.
    2. Resourcefulness: They adapt to available tools and resources.
    3. Problem-solving: They focus on finding solutions, not excuses.
    4. Professionalism: Blaming tools is unprofessional and immature.

This proverb can be applied to various situations:

    1. Workplace: Employees should focus on delivering quality work, regardless of equipment or software limitations.
    2. Personal projects: Individuals should take ownership of their results, rather than blaming tools or circumstances.
    3. Teamwork: Collaboration requires adaptability and problem-solving, not finger-pointing.

    Benefits of this mindset:

    1. Increased productivity
    2. Improved problem-solving skills
    3. Enhanced accountability
    4. Better teamwork and communication
    5. Professional growth and reputation

Conversely, blaming tools can lead to:

    1. Decreased motivation
    2. Lack of personal growth
    3. Strained relationships
    4. Poor work quality
    5. Missed opportunities

    Inspirational quotes:

    1. "It's not the tool, it's the hand that holds it." - Unknown
    2. "A good craftsman never blames his tools, but his own hands." - Japanese proverb
    3. "The best tools are useless in the hands of an unskilled craftsman." - Unknown

    This proverb encourages us to:

    1. Focus on developing skills and expertise.
    2. Adapt to changing circumstances.
    3. Take ownership of our work.
    4. Strive for excellence, regardless of limitations.

Ramchandra Vishnu Chavan has given some additional inputs.
I liked especially the quotes "It's not the tool, it's the hand that holds it." & "The best tools are useless in the hands of an unskilled craftsman."

@Saji Ganseh #782250. While initiating this thread I had the Haryana election result and some party's comment blaming EVM in my mind. But as I wanted different views from members, I did not specify as it would narrow the discussion sphere.
