Govt. BEE certified Energy Managers and Auditors National Certification Exams 2019


Want to know how to be a Government authorized BEE-certified Energy Manager or Energy Auditor? This article provides details of the National Certificate Examination which you need to pass to get certification from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). Details of the Certification exam for Energy Managers (CEM exam) and for Energy Auditors (CEA exam) have been provided along with the eligibility criteria, and the registration and application process.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Govt. of India has issued the notification for the 20th National Certificate Examination for Energy Managers (CEM exam) and Energy Auditors (CEA exam) which is scheduled for the month of September this year. The National Productivity Council (NPC) is the agency authorized to conduct both the exams.

Importance of CEM and CEA

The exams permit individuals to be accredited as a Certified Energy Manager/Certified Energy Auditor and be qualified to provide the relevant services to the industry. In the case of accreditation as an Energy Auditor, you need to be a certified Energy Manager, passing the relevant exam conducted by BEE in addition to meeting the requisite criteria. The questions and format of the exams are approved by BEE and set as per the syllabus which is given by it, this being on the basis of current developments and input received.



Eligibility requirements for CEA exam

You must be a Graduate engineer, as on the closing date of the application, with B.E. or B.Tech. qualification or have an equivalent qualification. Additionally, you must have a minimum of three years' work experience which includes the use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc.

Alternate acceptable qualifications: You must be a Post Graduate engineer as on the closing date of the application with an M.E. or M.Tech. qualification or have an equivalent qualification with the same work experience as mentioned above of at least two years. A Graduate engineer with a Post Graduate degree in Management or equivalent with the same work experience as mentioned above of at least two years can also apply.

Note: If you do not have the work experience as mentioned, then you cannot register for the exam. Your registration will be accepted and a Guidebook issued only on receipt of the Experience Certificate.

Eligibility requirements for CEM exam

You should have the same qualification of graduate/postgraduate engineer as per the eligibility criteria for CEA.

Alternate acceptable qualifications: You should be a Diploma Engineer or equivalent with a work experience of six years which includes the use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc. Those having a Post Graduate qualification in Physics or Electronics or Chemistry (with Physics and Mathematics at the graduation level) with a similar work experience of three years are also eligible to apply.

Exam format

The CEA and CEM exam will have four papers and for each the passing score requirement is 50% minimum. The four papers are -
Paper 1 of 150 marks (three hours): General aspects of Energy Management & Energy Audit, with objective and descriptive type questions.

Paper 2 of 150 marks (three hours): Energy Efficiency in Thermal Utilities, with objective and descriptive type questions.

Paper 3 of 150 marks (three hours): Energy Efficiency in Electrical Utilities, objective and descriptive type questions.

Paper 4: Energy Performance Assessment for Equipment & Utility Systems. This exam is only for CEA and has both descriptive and numerical questions. It is an open book exam, that is, you can refer to the Guide Book supplied at the time of registration, but other reference books and written material will not be allowed.

Important dates

Online registration and applications opens on 20th June 2019 at www.aipnpc.org and www.beeindia.gov.in. The last date of the receipt of the hardcopy of the Application with requisite documents: 23rd July 2019.

How to apply

You can first download the prospectus from the official website, in which details of the supply of the Guide Book for the exam is provided. Registration for CEM and CEA should be done at the AIPNPC official website. Those who are supplementary candidates of a previous National Certificate Exam must also submit their online application at this website only.

Once you have checked the details and submitted the online application, take a printout of it and send along with the requisite fee (see details of fees below for new candidates and supplementary candidates) and the requisite enclosures (for new candidates) to:

What fees have to be paid

In the case of new candidates, the application fee is Rs.500/- for general candidates and Rs. 250/- for SC, and ST candidates. The fee is Rs.250/- as well for candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes having an annual income of less than Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum.

The Certification fee for new candidates, which includes the exam fee, is Rs. 10,000/- for general candidates Rs. 5,000/- for SC and ST candidates as well as for Other Backward Classes having an annual income of less than Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum. Candidates who are sponsored by their Company have to pay a fee of Rs. 20,000/-.

In the case of supplementary candidates, there is no application fee. They have to pay an exam fee, which is Rs.1500/- per paper for general candidates. Rs.750/- for SC and ST candidates and for candidates of Other Backward Classes having an annual income of less than Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum.

Those who wish to get a certification upgrade from Energy Manager to Energy Auditor have to pay an upgradation fee. This is Rs.1500/- for general candidates, Rs.750/- for SC and ST candidates and Rs.750/- for candidates of Other Backward Classes having an annual income of less than Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum.

Note: All those who are taking a concession in the fees must submit the requisite supporting documents.
