Instructions: In-service Presentation on Infection Control; Protecting Ourselves and Others
A. Before the In-service Presentation
1. Make copies of the applicable policies so associates can refer to them during the session.
2. Make copies of a “Participant Review Sheet” to give to each associate
3. Make copies of any “Standard Precaution” handouts
4. Set up the area where the training will be held
a. Include white board and markers
5. Outline the session and read over the planned material
B. During the In-service
1. Begin the session by sharing a “Safety Moment” with the staff
2. Address all of the significant points in lesson plan
C. REPORT OF MAIN POINTS OF PRESENTATION:
a. Monitoring Log
§ Infectious Conditions Reported
§ Action Taken
b. Bandaging Cuts or Skin
· Clean
· Cover with bandage
· Protect with rubber or plastic glove
c. Contaminated Dishes
§ Wear disposable, non-latex gloves
§ Know when to use red bag and how to dispose
§ Document actions according to infection control policies
§ Wash hands
D. After the In-service
1. Participant Review sheets provided must be completed by each participant and filed in his or her employee file.
2. Ask if there are any questions.
