Can you think about life without mobile phones? Unimaginable you say, huh? Hmmm, might be the case truly. It has become such an intrinsic and dear part of our life. But they have never been restricted to simply talking to people and sending SMSs. They have become your Media Player, Calendar, Time-keeper, Camera, Video Recorder, guide on the roads (using GPS), Weatherman and what not. It is that necessary for our living. People are talking about mobile revolution every day but this mobile, about which I am going to talk about is the evolution of mobile phones. Nothing short of spectacular, the capacitive touchscreen phone HTC HD2 (Leo), a successor for the HTC Touch HD which wasn't really so popular because of it's price but defined a whole new category converging media players and mobile phones.

HTC HD2
The stunning HD2 doesn't leave much to be said

The device in the first look garners a huge amount of attention that you can't stop gazing at it anytime soon even if it isn't in front of your eyes. Probably the most touted device of the future. Most of you haven't heard about it so let me just run you all down with the details.

HTC has been manufacturing phones with Windows Mobile OS for a long time now and they have garnered some reputation basically due to the fact that they have modified the Windows Mobile OS to be actually made useful in their very own way. Recently, they have started manufacturing phones with the new Android OS and HTC Sense which completely redefines the way you organise your mobile. The HTC Sense is also going to be available for the HD2. If you think you aren't getting what exactly HTC Sense is, watch the video below-

So, finally, you wanna know what specifications make it mind-blowing? Well, here you go.

Display

The display is a humungous 4.3 inch capacitive touchscreen with a WVGA resolution of 800 X 480 to make sure those pictures and videos look just as they were meant to be.

CPU, RAM and Storage

The HTC HD2 is powered by the latest, beastly 1GHz Snapdragon™ processor which is currently the fastest processor available for a mobile device yet in the world. Very useful to make the phone feel very snappy despite the resource hungry apps in the phone. It is loaded with 448 MB RAM and 512 MB internal storage space with a microSD™ slot for storage expansion.

Operating System and HTC Sense

It is loaded with the just released Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional. But the highlight is HTC Sense who's user interface can drive anyone crazy. My favorite has to be the animated weather wallpaper which changes according to the weather and gives you the feel of the weather as shown in the video above. The menus available in the home screen are Home, People, Messages, Mail, Internet, Calendar, Stocks, Photos & Videos, Music, Weather, Footprints, Twitter, Settings.

Camera and Sensors

The camera is an auto focus 5 megapixel camera with Dual LED flashlight making sure darkness is no more the enemy in your pictures. The sensors include the G-Sensor, Proximity sensor and the Ambient light sensor with the latter two making sure that battery is saved and viewability improved.

Connectivity

The HTC HD2 is 3G enabled also supporting GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g). It's also got tethering support built into it. Bundles Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate with a wide range of supported profiles. Also internal GPS is present to guide you to your destination with a digital compass.

Multimedia

FM Radio and supported audio formats include - .aac, .amr, .m4a, .mid, .mp3, .mp4, .qcp, .wav, .wma and supported video formats include - .wmv, .asf, .mp4, .3gp, .3g2, .m4v, .avi. A standard 3.5 mm stereo audio jack is present to satisfy all your high quality music listening desires.

Social Networking

  • Facebook™ integration
  • Sharing photos on Facebook and Twitter
  • Sharing videos on YouTube™
  • HTC Peep™ for twittering

This is probably too comprehensive a list for the features. But the actual device in the hands would actually make the whole deal a lot sweeter. Some initial reviews suggest that this device performs as it should be and that the HTC Sense interface just gives it a whole new look.

When is the HTC HD2 coming to India? What will be the price when it arrives in India?

There is no idea about the release date of the HTC HD2 in India. It is releasing in Europe and Taiwan on 11 November with releases in other countries soon to follow in the coming months. India is not a priority for HTC due to the dwindling sales here and the domination of Nokia as the No. 1 brand in India's market.

Regarding price, the HD2 (unlocked version) is available at various retailers online at the rate of 550 Euros (roughly equal to Rs. 40000/- in India). Expect the final Indian price to be around Rs. 35000 to Rs. 40000. However, a price around Rs. 30000 might well be the killer price to woo prospective Indian buyers. But whatever it is, this gadget is worth every penny you spend on it.

I hope this article serves as a useful insight to a phone which is an evolution on itself and a whole new category in the mobile segment. Hope to see more manufacturers including the very popular ASUS, Acer, Samsung and LG to follow suit with HTC. But the future of mobiles sure looks bright enough.
