Life in a college hostel
|
With the rise in education, and with more and more importance given to it, one finds now pleny of schools and colleges everywhere. But while schools exist in every city or township or even village, colleges are yet not sufficient in number. Colleges mostly exist in large cities or towns. Township or villages have no occasion to possess a colloege locally. Hence students have to come from far off corners to join colleges. Since distances are long, many students decide to put up in a college hostel.
Hostel life has certain great attractions. The chief pleasure is that students feel free to spend money and even to live lavishly at times.Their pocket permitting they frequent restaurants, clubs, movietheateres etc. Inspite of the freedom enjoyed by students they have to abide by the rules of the hostel.
Hostel life provides a care-free atmosphere. The students stay comfortably away from the stern eyes of the parents. The usual domestic life has plenty of responsibilities and annoyances. On the other hand, in the college hostel students are on a like of excursion and parties. In many ways the life is merry and jovial in a college hostel.
Life in a hostel is community life.Students live together, as if it were a kind of family. In certain hostels three, four or even more students are accommodated in each room. In the same way they eat together at the dining time and go out together for entertainment, recreation or other purposes. Hostel life, therefore therefore helps grow team spirit. Getting long with others is a habit which is profitably cultivated at the hostel life.
A student, who has the determination, can study with full concentration at the college hostel. Since there are elders and other family members at home, several students find some of their precious time wasted there. In the college hostel, however, one can choose loneliness and can find great spots for study . No doubt there are other students who themselves do not study and try to disturb others , yet students having a sense of duty and passion for studies can make their circumstances favourable for serious studies.
For students coming from average families hostel life is a little more expensive than life at home. Students do not get nutritive and hygenic food in a hostel as they can get in their homes. Consequently the stress and strain of hard studies is not compensated with diet served to students in a college hostels.
In college hostels one also experiences several social irritations too. Since there are people of different tastes, some even belonging to different parts of the country, speaking different languages and observing different manners the sensitive student remains perturbed all through. These irritations actually get on his nerves and disturb the peace of his mind. At times the attitude of the warden becomes unbearable. He behaves rudely just to show his authority or superiority. The cultured student, with calm and quiet habits, suffers unending agony in the hostel. Besides the constant chattering of certain talkative students nearby which disturbs the serious students.
Students in hostel are likely to fall prey to several evils mostly of normal nature. Whether they are boys or girls they acquire some ignoble habits from from bad students. Going to cinemas too often or visiting wrong public places are common among hostel students. In addition to this students waste a lot of their time seeking the attention of opposite sex.
Hostel life is positively good in the sense that lit leads to free development of student's ablities. Since the student is free to do every thing unchecked, it leads to full development of the students. Since he has to manage everything himself without any aid fro others during his stay in the hostel, he develops a sense of self-decision and responsibility. These prove extremely useful to him in the future life.
