When a cell phone is switched on, it searches for a signal. The base transciever station sends signals at certain time intervals asking where is the cell phone right now. The cell phone , on recieving this signal, sends a signal indicating where is it located. If service is available, your phone transmits certain identification numbers so that the network can verify your specific customer information including your cell phone provider and mobile phone number, etc.
