Motherboard is a main component of your PC. In technical word it is a board on which circuit is designed. All your other components like Hard Disk, CD-Drive, and Floppy drive, CPU connects to it. The motherboard is the big communication highway. The main purpose of motherboard in your PC is to provide a platform for all other components and peripherals to talk to each other.

Motherboard Types
There are different types of motherboards available in the market, some of them are very high end an
Costly but provide good performance and features. Which motherboard is suitable for you depends on the type of CPU you are going to use. Since the sockets of motherboards are designed keeping CPU type in mind. So motherboard can be categories by their socket type. Motherboards can have Socket A, Socket 478 etc. So if you are going to buy a motherboard first decide which CPU you will be using since you will have to buy a supported motherboard only. This is also required because you cannot interchange the CPU and motherboard.

Things to remember when buying a Motherboard
You need to consider lots of things when buying a motherboard since most of your devices require motherboard at some point of time. For example some motherboards comes with only 3 PCI slots but incase you have 4 different PCI cards then you need one more which is not available in this motherboard. Similarly USB ports, some have only 2 ports, some have 4 and some have 6 so again you have to decide how much USB devices you are going to connect with the motherboard.
Another important part, which is memory you need to make sure that you have enough slots for memory card.
You need to be very careful while buying a motherboard since most of them offer everything but suppose you have to some old device, which is not supported by motherboard then it, would be wastage of your money. Ts

How to Measure Speed of Motherboard
Everybody wants their PC as fast as possible but it totally depends on the components installed on your computer. All motherboards have some components to measure the speed. A motherboards performance can be measured by some benchmarks. Motherboards with same chipset will have same performance and test results. The small difference that can occur is due to the material used in making the motherboard. Speed that is written on the box of motherboard is the maximum speed it can perform on. For example all motherboard vendors write Maximum FSB (Front Side Bus) Speed.
But this is useful only when the CPU also supports the same speed.

Motherboard Chipset
A motherboard chipset controls all the data that flows through the data channels (buses) of the motherboard. The primary function of the motherboard chipset is to direct this data to the correct areas of the motherboard, and therefore the correct components.

Motherboard Components
A motherboard has multiple connections for all kind of components. Motherboards have slots like ISA, AGP, PCI and DIMM. It also has some other connection for onboard USB ports, sound card, serial and parallel port, Network port, fire wire port and PS port for keyboard and mouse.

Overall a motherboard is an important part of your computer. It would be good to buy a motherboard, which is require by you and has all the features that you need.
