CREDIT CARD MACHINES – PROS AND CONS
Today, the credit card system has become a standard process for any business, regardless of its type, or size or location. For online merchants, retail merchants and even mail order merchants, the credit card processing network has improved business sales and helped their business grow beyond physical barriers. For businesses to have these credit card processing systems, they require a credit card machines, or swipe terminal, to enable the cards to be swiped and transacted. Consumers have been proven to do more business with firms that provide credit card machine services for their payments to be made.
Credit card machines have numerous advantages for both the business as well as the customer. Some of the advantages or pros of credit card machines are detailed below: - • Customer satisfaction is achieved for any business operating on credit card machines, for it eases the customer’s payment capabilities and ensures that they receive the best possible services. • Credit card machines enable very quick transactions, thus saving a lot of time that would go in making physical transfers and processing physical money. • Credit card machines provide customers with the ease of only having to carry around the plastic cards for payments, and not having to worry about carrying liquid cash which has many liabilities. • It enables customers to make payments in situations where they do not have money on them, and thus the shopping rates of customers also go up. This in turn is advantageous for the business as their sales rate would increase. • For customers, the chances of getting involved in a fraudulent scam by online use of credit cards are lesser than an actual physical transaction.
However, in spite of all of the above advantages, every plus has to have a minus, so is the case with the credit card machines. Some of the drawbacks that merchants and customers might face when dealing with credit cards online are as follows: - • Even though the risk of frauds for customers is lesser in online transactions than physical ones, it is the other way round for merchants. Accepting credit card payments online gives them a higher risk element since they do not have actual physical connections with their clients. • Credit card machines or software’s can also stop working if there are any technical errors or if it gets old and used. In some cases the merchant may not even realise this, and the transactions may not be getting processed, and the merchant may lose out on his sales. • There is higher risk of chargebacks and frauds when a merchant uses the credit card machine system.
Though the credit card machine network has these pros and cons, it is still one of the most popular payment methods used today. For businesses and consumers alike, the credit card machines make business transactions easier, faster and more efficient. So they would not mind taking the risk of a few flaws in the system to ensure that they have a good profitability, and convenience in the case of customers, for the long run.
