What is Parental Abuse

The article I read today about one case of Ms Genevieve Gomes in Mumbai Mirror prompted me to write something about what I think needs to be now discussed openly- The Parental abuse and what today’s parents needs to be aware of.

This is very sensitive topic and almost all involved in it are those who are not aware of consequences of same. Nowadays New parents to be see Parenting as way to raise their children to meet growing needs of society and make them emotionally strong .Prior to this parenting was just providing basic physical, educational needs of children.

We see many articles and site talking about effecting parenting concept and increasing demand for more and more. Why is this thing suddenly required to be learnt?

Causes of Parental Abuse

When parents consider their children to be their wish fulfilling machine, want their kids to do same things, see same dreams which they cannot fulfill for themselves emotional spurge comes in from both children and parents. This is beginning of Parental Abuse.

There are lot of facts today which cause emotional stress for people like growing competition, shortage of almost everything (most important money), less joint families, less socializing. Most of people who are engaged in abuse are ones among below:

1) Ones who were themselves hit by their parental abuse
2) Emotionally and mentally not stable
3) Those who have feeling of insecurity in day to day activities
4) Those who don’t have stable mind and don’t know how to control their actions
5) Drinking lot of alcohol and drug addiction

If we observer this trend, we see that in India, people pay less attention to emotional health. This deteriorates their emotional health and they succumb to such situations traumatizing their own kids.

Effects of Parental Abuse

Forms of abuse can be both verbal and physical. Kids are most affected amongst this and abuses have long lasting affect on one’s mind. There may be some psychological issues with these children and also cause deep resentment within these people. Kids may not be able to show any progress in both emotional and physical, and intellectual front. Deep resentment may cause dreaded disease like Cancer if kept for more time. They may have issues themselves when they start their parenting life.

I would like to conclude by saying that schools and colleges can start educating young generation on cause, effects of this very neglected topic Parental Abuse so that ones who are affected by it may come out of it and future generation would be made more aware so as to reduce this from happening again!

Hello Madhura,
I really loved this topic.Even educated parents are still not aware that they are creating a mental stress to their children with their so called'parental abuse'.
Its a topic which has to be debated among parents as parental abuse is also an major reason behind suicides.
My dear friend since you have posted this article in an inappropriate category should be the reason for the less audience.
