I prefer all three formats. T20 may be the toast of day, but that's no reason to kill the other two formats.
The advent of one day internationals did not make test cricket redundant. To the contrary, it induced a new energy into test cricket and made it even more skillful and attractive. Similarly, T20 is likely to force players and its administrators to reinvent one day cricket, T20 has overshadowed the 50 over game primarily because it is the new brand, wait for some time and its excitement will be over.
Ofcourse, T20 has its share of innovations that makes one day cricket jaded, most importantly, T20 has taken a cue from one day cricket. Interestingly the 50 over format was invented essentially to make cricket more entertaining, but as the 50 over game evolved, it created its own innovations, gained its own identity and entirely different from other two formats.
There is every reason to expect that the one day format will be reinvented, if spectators appear to be loosing interest in that format just because too many one days being played, it is required to cut down its number of matches played. A mix of test, one day and T20 is the right way forward.
Presently, the one day format is also used as a platform to get second-rung teams to play top test playing nations. It goes like this : Ireland cannot play a test match against Australia, so let them play an 50 overs formats, which looks a recipe for disaster.
It is believed that ICC is in talks with boards of cricket playing nations, must work out a schedule, which allows all three formats of cricket to be played and more importantly at reasonable intervals, let all three formats flourish.
If one day format does not live up to the challenge posed by T20, it will die a natural death, but let us not become a reason for that.

very nicely written.. I dont think T20 cricket will affect popularity of one day cricket. Infact what i think is because of T20, one day cricket has turned into batsman's favour as we can see today, every team scores almost above 250 runs and 300 is also not a safe target today.
but still as far as india is concerned both the forms are equally popular. Regards.

Each and every format has its own response. There are differnt kind of categories who like each and every formats.T20 is fastest cricket match so that we need not to stick to the tv for a lot of time.50 overs is based on the performance and our talent. But in t20 it is just hitting the ball to the boundaries. What ever inda is best in both the formats.

Competitive Cricket is now being played in three categories. The classic five day Test format is similar to sumptuouse meal on a festival day, the 50 over ODI format that's business lunch, and the new 20 over format - the fast food. whatever the public says, the true Cricketer as also die-hard Cricket fan will always cherish test cricket. For cricketer, to endure and consistently perform his trade over five days is ultimate challenge. In the same test match, different pitch conditions, different climate, different ball conditions pose an intereting challenge. To me, the most romantic provision in Test cricket is a draw. A nail biting finish ending in a tantalising draw is often more gripping than a T20 match ending with last ball requiring a six to be hit!
