My First Interview!

Personally, I had always feared interviews. But then I knew I had to face it some day. This scariest day was 11th Jan, 2007.
I was in my final year of graduation when we came to know about Offcampus Recruitment of a reputed company. Our almost whole class decided to go for it. The place of interview was 3 hours from our place, and for that we started early at 5 a.m in the morning and reached at 8 a.m in the destined college.
There were students from different college and the job seeker crowd seemed too large. After registration and induction, we were told to be seated in classes to take our written test.
Written test was based on english understanding and writing skills and wasn’t too tough. The results were supposed to be announced after 2 hours which seemed too long at that moment. Finally when the 2 hours were over, the names were announced in the alphabetic orders. Also, they had determined if the candidate will be in BPO or IT based on their aggregrate marks. As soon as the list for ‘S’ started, my heart skipped a beat with every name. I almost did not realize my name announced and only realized it when my friends started cheering and congratulating me! And my excitement doubled when I was selected for IT.
For candidates selected in IT, the second round i.e personal interview was on the next day. And so were back home at 10 p.m all tired and fueled for next day at the same time.
Again we started at 5 p.m in the morning to reach our destination on time. There were again groups scattered here and there, some people studing and preparing for the interview, some enjoying and some recognized faces from the previous day. The interview started and there were too many interviewers. Atlast my turn came at 1 p.m. I entered the classroom where my interviewer was seated with rats jumping in my stomach. There were two tables set at opposite ends, one was already occupied with an interviewer and a candidate, while the other table was vacant! I decided to wait outside the class. After some 5 mins, a lady entered the class asking me to join her and I quitely followed her. She told me to be seated and apologized me for the wait. I replied with a ‘that’s ok’. I had heard the other interviewer asking technical questions of all sort which had already flown all the colors from my face. Though my interviewer looked sweet.
Ofcourse the first basic question shooted was ‘Tell me about yourself’. I somehow collected my memory which had become blank some minutes back and answered her. I don’t know if she realized that I was nervous, but she started asking me formal questions related to my resume, my family, my hobbies. I was given 2 puzzles to solve as well which I could not solve but did not even give up easily. And then I was done with interview in some 10 minutes.
When I went back I heard experience of some other candidates too after which I wasn’t so sure about qualifying. I eagerly waited for the results and was not even in the mood to talk. Atlast afterr 1 hour the result was announced and hurray my name was announced in the selected candidates. I finally made it to INFOSYS. I was congratulated and hugged by my friends. I rushed to the board where the result were pinned just to see my name displayed in the selected candidate list. It was a moment with rush of all good feelings seeing my name in the list. I called up mom and told her about the news. Soon I started getting calls from my relatives congratulating me!!
My to-be scariest day turned out to be one of the memorable days in my life!
