Ayurveda is an ancient system of Indian medicine, Koumarabhritya is one among the eight branches of Ayurveda, which deals with child care.

Children are the citizens of tomorrow. A child is precious not only to his parents, family, community, nation but also to the world at large. Advances in perinatal care and the establishment of neonatal nurseries improve the chances of survival of many newborns who would otherwise have succumbed to death. This, today although we are bale to survive high risk babies, we leave most of them fighting with the risk of developmental delays, speech problems, and behavioral problems. The childhood disability did not receive the due attention in society because of the general feeling that the problem is so big in a vast country like India that nothing much can be done. Of late it is noticed that the parents of such children are turning to some alternative system of medicine after prolonged modern conventional treatment.

In Ayurveda developmental disorders are considered due to Vata dosha vitiation. Hence Vatadosha pacifying treatment modalities like Abhanga, Sastika shali pinnda sweda, Shirodhara, Basti, etc. has shown good result in such disorders.
