School Games
|
'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy': there is a lot of truth in this proverb. Pupils should not always be reading. Unless they enjoy some form of recreation, they become stale and their reading suffers in consequence. Games provide the best form of recreation in schools. Pupils, after playing for an hour or two, can go back to their books mentally refreshed.
Games not only provide recreation for pupils, but make their bodies strong and keep them healthy. They give them valuable practice in making eyes, brain and muscles work together. The commonest of school games are cricket, tennis, badminton, football, hockey, volley-ball and kabaddi.
Games are also very useful for character training. In every game there are certain rules to be observed, and by observing the rules pupils can imbibe discipline. Each of the players learns to work for his team rather than for himself on the playground, so that he'll later turn out an ideal citizen working for the good of country instead of only for his own benefit.
Games should therefore be made compulsory for pupils.
