Michael Jackson (MJ) (1958-2009)
|
On 26th June 2009, America’s greatest popstar, Michael Jackson, popularly known as “MJ”, died at the age of 50, with a suspected Cardiac Arrest. The king of pop was reportedly in Cardiac Arrest before his death. But still there is much confusion on what was responsible for the popstar’s death, and till today there has been no leads found to the mystery death of Michael Jackson.
He did marvels in the history of pop and broke barriers in India as he discovered India in 1996 and observed that he has such a big fan following in India. His style had swept India and made Indians crazy to copy his style.
Some of his famous styles of Jackson in India are:-
1. The Moonwalk: - The glide, as if on skates. Everyone in the world loved it; everyone was trying to do it. Those who could not perform the step were trying to learn it. Dance schools mushroomed to groom a generation of moonwalkers as teachers and parents were frowning as their children practised the step whole day and never studied! 2. The hair: - The back left long and the top and sides cut with the corkscrew lock of hair, the classic MJ! Was it a bigger sensation than Elvis’s quiff? You decide! 3. Black and white: - Last on my list but not the least. The ankle-length black pants with white socks. The youth of India suddenly refused to outgrow their pants and schools and colleges had to frame rules so that they covered the socks. Senior citizens living in Mumbai who were fans of MJ may remember his visit to India on who were fans of MJ may remember his visit in India on October 30, 1996, for the “Michael Jackson History World Tour Mumbai.”
He was greeted at the airport by actress Sonali Bendre, who performed aarti and applied tilak on his forehead. He stayed at the Oberoi Hotel, where he charmed the staff and left a departing message “I love you”, scrawled in lipstick on his room mirror. His appearance in the evening at the Andheri Sports Complex lived up to expectations as fans wanted a piece of the popstar.
Just as he had risen to the top of the world, in a similar manner he lost his popularity and that too fast! Some of the reasons of fall of MJ are discussed below: -
1. MJ announces addictions to painkillers and abruptly cancels world tour. 2. Slammed for hold his third, Prince Michael II, over the railing of a hotel balcony during a public appearance, due to which he was fined heavily. 3. Suffered injuries and collapsed regularly during shows or rehearsal, broke a vertebra and leg in an on-stage fall, bursts a lung blood vessel. 4. In 2003, charged with sexually abusing boys during sleepover at his Nevland Ranch, documented by Martin Bashir. Acquitted(Declared not guilty of the offense or crime) in 2005
Martin Bashir, then a British Journalist based in London who made his reputation with a confessional interview with Princess Diana in which she admitted, she had been unfaithful to Prince Charles, as he claimed that he was “the man who turned Princess Diana’s life around.”
After the incident Martin Bashir was introduced to MF by Geller, a man who having made all his money by bending spoons, to make a documentary on MJ. The documentary was the turning point in MJ’s life, as the documentary recorded by Martin Bashir, showed that children had routinely slept over at MJ’s home at Nevland Ranch, and even in his bedroom.
Though, MJ denied any sexual impropriety, his reputation never recovered after the documentary. MJ claims that he had trusted Bashir and wanted to show the world the truth, how he lived, what were his favourite pass time, hobbies etc. but after seeing the documentary MJ confessed he had made a mistake trusting Bashir.
The two Indian actors Mithun Chakroborty and Prabhu Deva whose style are compared to MJ’s, claim that MJ was their idol or rather “is” their idol as he is like a phoenix, he can only rise but never perish. Both were shocked to hear about MJ’s death as both were huge fans of MJ.
Fans of MJ claim that Martin Bashir is to be held guilty for the death of MJ’s death.
MJ’s childhood friend, spiritual guru Deepak Chopra, claims that his friend was addicted to prescription drugs and that constant media speculation made him a loner. Deepak Chopra too claims Martin Bashir had 75% hand in MJ’s death. In 2005, after fighting for justice, MJ had been pinned down by Bashir as Bashir himself presented the case to the judge. After the case was over MJ’s reputation and his health were irreparably damaged.
I will be paying tribute to the “King of POP” as his legacy will live on forever, through the generations.
