IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATES 1. Please refer to the eligibility criteria mentioned in the Relevant Information enclosed. 2. The duly filled-in application (Form A) should be submitted on or before 25th May, 2009 by registered post/through reputed courier/in person to the following address only: The Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara, Guwahati – 781022. 3. The envelope containing the application should be superscripted “APPLICATION FOR ENTRANCE EXAMINATION”. 4. No testimonials are to be enclosed with this application. 5. Three copies of recent passport size photograph of the candidate are to be attached with the application – one each to be pasted in the space provided in the application form and the Acknowledgement cum Admit card, and a third extra copy to be attached with the application form. 6. Each application must accompany an application fee of Rs. 400.00 (Rs. 250.00 in case of SC/ST candidates) in the form of A/C Payee Demand Draft/Banker’s cheque drawn in favour of the Registrar, Assam Agricultural University payable at Jorhat – 785013. 7. Applicants should ensure proper delivery of their applications to the above address. No claim, whatsoever, shall be entertained if the application is not received at the office of the Dean, F.V.Sc., AAU, Khanapara, Guwahati–781022 on or before 25th May, 2009. 8. No separate calling letter or admit card will be issued for the Entrance Examination, except in case of submission of application forms downloaded from AAU website. The application number shall be considered as the Roll No. for the Entrance Examination. The candidates are advised to note it down for future reference. The candidature shall, however, be subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria as indicated in the Information Bulletin. 9. The Examination Centre once opted cannot be changed. 10. The questions for the Entrance Examination will be of objective type and the syllabus for the examination shall be of + 2 level. 11. The Entrance Examination shall be of 3 hours duration and shall comprise of three parts, viz. Biology 40 marks, Chemistry 30 marks and Physics 30 marks. 12. The Examination shall be held on 7th June, 2009 (Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Any change of examination schedule shall be notified through leading newspapers of the state. 13. Qualifying marks in the Entrance Examination shall be 50% (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in aggregate of the three subjects. 14. A Merit List consisting of Roll numbers of the qualifying candidates shall be published in leading newspapers of the state. 15. Mere qualifying in the Entrance Examination shall not automatically make an applicant eligible for admission. The merit-listed candidates shall be called for counseling and final selection. 16. The applicant shall appear in the Entrance Examination in his/her own cost. 17. The candidates shall not be allowed to bring mobile phones, pagers or any other electronic gadgets to the Examination Hall.
The Degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Veterinary Science are as follows: 1. B.V.Sc. & A.H. of 10 semesters where 17 disciplines are included. This includes a period of compulsory Internship for one semester. 2. M.V.Sc. of 4 semesters offered in 18 disciplines. 3. Ph.D. of 6 semesters offered in 13 disciplines. Seats available under B.V.Sc. & A.H.degree programme: Out of a total 100 seats, 43 seats are reserved for candidates under the following categories: i) N.E. states 26 seats ii) V.C.I. nominees 12 seats iii) Govt. of India nominee 1 seat iv) Govt. of Assam nominee (VFA) 4 seats Total = 43 seats The rest 57 seats are available for candidates under different categories of reservation to be selected on the basis of Entrance Examination as mentioned below: i) General 29 seats ii) O.B.C./M.O.B.C. 8 ” iii) Scheduled Castes 4 ” iv) Scheduled Tribes (Plains) 5 ” v) Scheduled Tribes (Hills) 3 ” vi) Children of Freedom fighters 1 ” vii) Children/brothers/sisters of victims or Martyrs of Assam Movement 1 ” viii) Sons/Daughters of AAU employees 2 ” x) Children of Defence personals* 2 ” xi) Sports quota** 2 ” Total = 57 seats * Sons/daughters of defence personals working in Assam for last one year or more. ** Candidates representing the State of Assam at National or International level N.B.: The Entrance Examination will be conducted for these 57 seats only. Except for the seats reserved for Children of Defence personals, the rest 55 seats shall be available exclusively to the permanent residents of Assam. Any reserved category seats falling vacant on the day of counselling will be filled up by candidates from common waiting list prepared on the basis of merit in the Entrance Examination. 2. Academic year : The academic year of the degree programme is from August to July. The academic year consists of two terms of 100 instructional days. Each term is called a ‘semester’. 3. Eligibility Criteria : To be eligible for admission into B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree programme, a candidate must fulfil the following conditions – a) Must attain the age of 17 years on the last date of submission of application. b) Must secure at least 50% of the total marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the Combined Competitive Examination. c) The candidate should have passed Higher Secondary Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in the same sitting, securing at least 50% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate of all subjects. d) He/She has passed (i) The Higher Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. OR (ii) the Intermediate/Pre-degree examination in Science from a recognized University/Board with Physics, Chemistry and Biology which shall include a practical test in these subjects. OR (iii) The Pre-Professional/Pre-medical examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, after passing either the Higher Secondary School Examination or the Pre- University or an equivalent examination. The Pre-professional examination shall include a practical test in these subjects. OR (iv) B.Sc. examination from a recognized University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. examination with not less than two of the following subjects Physics, Chemistry and biology (Botany/Zoology) and further that he/she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with the following subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. OR (v) Any other examination which in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian University/Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, taking Physics, Chemistry and biology including a practical test in each of these subjects and English. 4. Physical fitness : Admission shall be subject to the medical fitness of the candidates being declared as such by University Medical Officer or Medical Board constituted by the University at the time of admission. 5. Scholarships: Merit scholarships are awarded by the University to the students on the basis of merit and subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria as per university rules. 6. Admission procedure: (a) For the 57 seats allotted to the candidates from Assam, admission will be strictly on the merit in the Entrance Examination conducted by the Assam Agricultural University and counselling to be held at scheduled time and date to be notified later. (b) In the Entrance Examination, the candidates must appear in the following papers: (i) Physics (ii) Chemistry (iii) Biology 7. Fees payable at the time of admission into UG programme: (The following fees are presently in force in the University. Candidates may consult the Information Bulletin published by the University in due course.) Particulars Total fees payable (Rs.) 1st Semester 2nd Semester 1. College fees 2750.00 2170.00 2. Hostel fees (Boarders only) 2000.00 900.00 8. Amenities for students: i. The college has a well-equipped library, which provides textbooks, journals and other periodicals to the students. ii. Regular students are required to stay in the hostels unless otherwise permitted by the concerned authority. At present, there are altogether 7 boys’ and 3 girls’ hostels in the college. The hostels are equipped with basic amenities and a student may require approximately Rs. 800.00 per month to meet the expenses on food in addition to the hostel rent etc. iii. The college also provides ample opportunities to the students to cultivate their talents in different fields of extra-curricular activities including sports. The students undergo a compulsory NCC training during 1st and 2nd year classes. It also provides facilities for horse riding. iv. The college has a well-equipped Heath Centre with adequate staff for providing 24-hour health care services to the students and other campus inmates. v. There is a separate Directorate of Students’ Welfare to look after the students’ welfare and amenities. vi. The college has a Bioinformatics Centre and its own Local Area Network with 24-hour high-speed Internet connectivity.
