Baburao Painter

Real name ‘Krishnarao Mistry’.
He was known for his artistic approaches like meticulous photography, a talent for poetic evocation, his control of lighting, grand sets and the way he showed movement in crowd scenes.
In 1917, he established the Maharashtra Film Company in Kolahpur.
In 1923, he made the first large scale Indian historical, Sinhagad, on the life of Shivaji.
With such attempts a new genre added in Indian Cinema.
The first feel of realism could be seen in the most famous film by him ‘Savkari Pash’ (1925). A film was a strong condemnation of moneylanders.
In 1929, in collaboration with V. Shantaram, Govind Damle and Sheikh Fatehla he founded Prabhat Studios.
