History behined Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Temple- Bhadrachalam

This article is about my experience gained by visiting Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Temple in Bhadrachalam. There is a real devotional story behined this great Temple. Bhadrachalam is located in Khammam district of Andhra pradesh. I had mention the entire history behined this Rama Temple in this article.

I had started my journey from my house which is located near Kukatpally. I went to the bustop of KPHB and picked the APSRTC bus the way to Bhadrachalam. It took morethan a half-day to reach the destination. Next day morning I started my way to Darshanam of Lord Sri Rama. There was a huge crowd of devotees waiting for 'Dharshanam'. Finally I had completed my Dharshanam successfully with full of devotion. The posture is very unique, with attracting face of Lord Sri Rama and Seethe Devi. The climate around the temple is very pleasent because of dense forest spread near the temple. The interesting fact is Lord Sri Rama with his wife Seethe and brother Laxmana had spent hi early portion of his life in this forest, called as 'Dandakaranyam'.

History:

There is a big history behined this great Temple. A guide had explained me all the facts behined this great temple. Comimg to the history, Pokala Dhammaka who was a great devotee of Lord Sri Rama lives near to the present Bhadrachalam. Once in her dream, she had seen an idol located in the forest. The next norning she cleared all the forest and spoted the area which she has seen in her dream. She started doing pooja to the idol of Lord Sri Rama with Seetha and laxmana. She had constructed a small temple for Lord Sri Ramachandra. The present temple at Bhadrachalam was constructed by Bhakta Ramdas. The actual name of Bhakta Ramdas is Sri Kancharla Gopanna.

Sri Kancharla Gopanna was born to Linganna Murthy and Kamamba in 1620 A.D in the village named Nelakomdapalli. He is also a devotee of Lord Sri Ramachandra and used to sing songs to praise Lord Rama He has a very good talent of singing. Many relatives of Gopanna were working the adminstrative of royal treasury. One of Gopanna's nephew Akkanna had appointed Gopanna as Tahsildar to the region Bhadrachalam ( tax collector officer) in the court of then Sultan Abdul Hasan Tana Shah of Golconda. When Gopanna visited small temple of Lord Rama which was constructed by Pokala Dhammaka, Gopanna felt very bad because of its bad shape. Gopanna had decided to construct Temple for Lord Sri Rama. Without delay he started collecting funds for the construction of Temple. The construction of temple started, but the funds collected was not enough for the temple. So Ramdas used the amount which is collected from Tax Revenue. Construction of temple reached final stage, funds were not enough to place "sudarshana chakra" at the crest of main temple. Ramdas worried about that matter and went into deep meditation. In his meditation Lord Rama appeared and asked him to dip in river godavari and affer prayings. Ramdas was shocked and he immediately went to river and dipped in it. He found "Sudharshana Chakra" in water. Finally construction of temple completed successfully.

From that point of time Ramdas faced many problems. The Nawab of Golconda came to know about all the matter about Temple. Nawab was very angry on Ramdas as he used the tax revenue for the constructing temple. Ramdas was immediately imprisonned untill he pay backs the money of tax revenue. Ramdas started singing songs on Lord Rama while he was punished and under pain. One night Lord Rama and Laxmana came to fort of Golconda in the names of Ramoji and Laxmoji as the soldiers of Ramdas. They paid the amount of Ramdas and asked him to release their devotee and they disappeared. This full scene was happened in the dream of Nawab Tanishah, and after that he understood that Ramdas was innocent. Tana shah then realised the devotion of Bhakta Ramadas and realised that the two men in disguise were none other than Rama and Laxmana.

Ramdas was released and Tanishah offered him the total amount payed by RAMA and LAXAMAN. But Ramdas refused to take full amount and he took only two coins from it as a mark of Divine. Tanishah send the total amount collected from taxes to temple. From that day onwards the State Government of Andhra Pradesh is sending gifts and materials for Kalyanotsavam of Seetha Rama on the occasion of "Sri Rama Navami" festival.

It was a wonderful experience for me knowing many new thing and about great people. After visiting the Temple my thoughts about emples were totally changed. Besides the temple, this place was also a tourist place which was visited by many people daily. Boating in river Godavari is a very good experience for me, there is a lot of enjoyment. So totally in my journey there is devotion, knowing about Randas, enjoyment in boating and so on.

While I appreciate your article which provided in depth details of Bhadrachallam Sri Seetharama temple. But you have forgotten to mention another important religious place of importance near Bhadrachallm which is a must to go. It is called the Parnashala. It was said here that Seetha was abducted by Ravana when Ram was having vanvas. The place is so serene with Godavari going in full spate and we can even touch the river.
