1)The cnidarians represent the first true metazoans(eumetazoa) with a majority living in the marine environment.

2)They are mostly sedentary and some are free swimming forms.

3)They show diploblastic body construcion and radial symmetry.

4)The phylum includes hydras,jelly fishes and sea anemones.

5)The body form is either a hydra like polyp form or umbrella like, free swimming medusa form.

6)Some however show many forms and this phenomenon is called ploymorphism e.g.physalia.

7)occurence of polyploid and medusoid forms in the life history is a unique feature of some cnidarians

8)some cnidarians(coral animals) possess a hard external skeleton formed of calcium carbonate.these skeletons are commonly called corals.
