Cement: Cement bags should be placed in stacks on raised platforms, dry and impervious to water with at least 30 cm clearance/gap from the adjacent wall. The stacks should generally not be more than 12 bags high to prevent lumping of the cement under pressure and also to avoid injury to any workman.
Lime: Lime should be stored in a suitable shed to protect it from dampness. Also,it should ideally not be stacked against a wall of a shed.
Bricks: Bricks should not be dumped at site. They should be stacked at ground level in regular tiers directly as they are unloaded to minimize breakages and facilitate an easy counting of bricks. It is preferable to limit the height of the stacks to 1.5 m.
Fine aggregate:Fine aggregates such as Sand and surkhi should be stacked in regular stacks on a hard surface of platform so as to prevent the admixture of clay, vegetable and other foreign matter.
Coarse aggregate:Coarse aggregate should preferably be stacked in regular stacks in such a way so as to prevent the admixture of foreign matter.
Steel: Steel reinforcement should be stored in such a way as to prevent distortion and corrosion.Bars of different classification, sizes and lengths should be stored separately in order to facilitate maintenance of records as per the bar-bending schedule.
