Materials Required:-
Powder of lead nitrate,Hard glass test tube,Test tube holder,Blue Litmus Paper.
Procedure:-
(1)Take a small amount of lead Nitrate powder in a dry test tube.Hold the test tube with a test tube holder.
(2)Heat the test tube over the flame of the burnr first gently then strongly .
(3)Observe the colour of the gas evolved.
(4)Put the leaf of Moist Blue litmus paper above the mouth of the test tube to test the nature of the gas evolved.
(5)Bring a glowing splint near the mouth of the test tube.
Observations:-
(1)On heating lead nitrate decomposes crackling sound.A Brown Gas,Nitrogen dioxide(NO2) evolves which has irritating smel.The gas turns blue Litmus red,hence Acidic in nature.
(2)A yellow Solid Residue of lead oxide(PbO)remains in the test tube.
(3)Glowing splint rekindles.
Inference
Lead nitrate decomposes on strong heating with crackling sound.It produces acidic nitrogen doixide,yellow solids of lead oxide and oxygen.
