Materials Required:-
Strips of Magnesiun(Mg),A pair of tongs to hold the magnesium ribbon Strip,Watch Glass or China Dish(to collect the ash Burnt Mg ribbon,Match Box,Sand,Paper,Litmus Paper
Procedure:-
(1) Take a piece of Mg ribbon and rub it with sand paper to remove dirt or dust from its surface.
(2)Hold Mg ribbonwith the help of a pair of tongsover the watch glass or China Dish to collect the Ash of burnt Mg ribbon
(2)Light the ribbon and observe.
(4)Bring a moist red litmus paper in contact with the white Ash collected in Watch Glass.
Result:-
(1) Mg is Silverly metal white in colour
(2)Mg burns in air by taking Oxygen from Air toform Mgo(Magnesium Oxide)
(3)Mg+O2(Oxygen)=Mgo
