Dadra Nagar Haveli is an union territory of India and is located between Gujarat and Maharashtra. The maratas, made friends with the Portugese and signed the Marata-Peshwa treaty in the year 1779, which gave rights to the Portugese to collect revenue from Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

This union territory was under the Portugese rule untill the year 1954 and on 2nd Aug 1954, they got liberated. This territory was joined to the Indian Union in the year 1961.

This is a beautiful land area located in the foot hills of Western Ghats on the West Side. The major river that flows through this Union Territory is Damanganga.

There are tribes living in this Union Territory and they have their own culture and rituals. The tribals consist of almost half of the population of this Union Territory. Even though the Union Territory have many people settling there the essence of Tribal life is still prevalant.

There is one LokSabha Constituency and for 6 consecutive years, Delkar Mohanbhai Sanjibhai was elected as an MP but in this year's elections Patel Natubhai Gomanbhai of BJP was elected from this constituency.

Though there is an elected representative for this Union Territory, the Administrator of Dadra Nagar Haveli is the final decision taker. The administrator of Dadra Nagar Haveli is also the secretary of this Union Territory and also of Daman and Diu. He is not only the Administrator, but also the head of Police, Fire Services and Prison. He is also incharge of the Personnel & Administrative reforms, Vigilance, Information and Publicity. He is also the Inspector General of Police of both Daman and Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli.

The current Administrator of Dadra Nagar Haveli is Shri. Satya Gopal, IAS
