The Central comittee of CPIM decided to drop the C.M of Kerala Shri.V.S Achuthanandan from the Polit Bureau for the reason of violating the organisational principles in the last meeting held on Sunday. And the comittee supported the accused Party Secretary Shri.Pinaray Vijayan in SNC Lavlin case.

The decision of the Central Committee of CPI (M) to downgrade VS from PB membership to the Central Committee membership is quiet funny. The party seems to tell that a high level functionary of the Party will only be slightly punished even if he is found to have violated Party discipline to the extent of the Party losing elections in a whole State. Think of what would have happened if such indiscipline were to be seen in a local level organisation of the Party.

With regard to Pinarayi Vijayan, the Party seems to be at odds with its own policy of fighting corruption. According to CPI (M), when leaders of other parties get involved in corruption scandals, they should resign or should be removed, but when it comes to its own leaders, it is CIA or opposition conspiracy. Most of the democratic left intelligentia have come out against this approach. We cannot stand judge to whether Pinarayi is guilty or not, but implication of a high profile left leader in such a nasty scandal is very rare, if not the first. Any credible left Party would have freed such an accused from Party responsibilities at least till the completion of the inquiry or case.
