I had a similar problem with one of our office PC's. After several hours of trying to diagnose the problem, we found out that there was a short in the USB socket. When the socket was replaced, the computer and USB worked like new.

I am agree with the above response the only reason behind auto restart of a system by pluging a USB is due to only hardware problem and maximum chances are of short circuit in usb socket.
Solution : -
Check if the socket is proper i.e. There is not any short between upper and lower wires.
Also check cable of usb for short.
If there is a short circuit remove it by replacing the cable.

hello,
this is hardware problem and chance of shor wire in usb socket.
you are check usb socket, usb device.
Also check cable of usb for short.
If there is a short circuit remove it by replacing the cable.

HI,
This problem cause due to short in USB. There mightbe 2 reason.
1) Check other USB drive connecting the same USB port of your computer. If it restart then change the USB port or disable it.
2) Might be due to short on your USB drive the hardware forcefully rebooting machine which will sometime cause serious problem to your computer by damaging other hardware.

This is a hardware problem .The chance of a short wire in usb socket.
you may check usb socket, usb device and also check cable of usb for short.
If there is a short circuit remove it by replacing the cable.It may help you.

This problem may be due to short in USB circuit or Virus.
First of all Do ckeck other USB drive on your pc and connect in the same USB port. If still it restarts the pc then change the USB port.
Second one is may be visrus. Do you have virus protection to your pc. means do you have updated anti virus. May be the anti virus program is not able to repair that virus and for precaution it Restats.

Hai i can under stand u r Problem, I think it Was a power cable problem please do this one
I just corrected the same problem on my desk top. Re-install or update your USB drivers. If that doesn't work replace your power supply. I swiched mine out and it fixed the problem

connect a USB hub port (port having 4 USB connection) then chek it if same problem then surely USB circit problem

Hello friend,there is only one chance for that problem.Since you have tried different USB it indicates that the USB associated with system is short circuited.
Try to replace it or try to plug in different usb drive in back of cpu.More delay you make to replace your drive,more damages to your computer

hey frnd,
this is so simple . first of all check ur USB in a different system. If t functions well in that system it means the prob is in your USB port.
it hs not been installed proprly so try reinstalling wit your installation CD.
then it will function normally in all PC.
and also make sure that you always scan ur USB wit an updated anti virus. if you don t, this may spoil your system.
also avoid using it in all computers.

Check your USB first by placing it another PC. If you found the same problem then your USB has the problem and need to replace and if not then, you must test with a tester to see whether the USB Socket of PC is fine or short. You may need to replace your Socket/Port (USB) of your PC. It takes arounf Rs.100/-.

Hi just enable your usb while booting then problem continues update driver else check for any shorts in cable if further continues buy it a new piece with standard quality. Or contact local mechanic else it will cause any other big damage if it is caused by virus

problem can happen due to several reasons.....
1.) As discussed in above responses......may be short circuit in the USB port. check the pen drive in other USB ports too....if it happens that means there is some problem in either
(a) hardware of the pen drive .........check it by purchaser....or first check it within other pc.......if it runs in other pc.....than format it.
(b) may be there some changes in boot process of your system........restart of ur system may be enabled on insertion of USB....you can cure it by just press on F8 key while ur pc restarts and then you will get many options.....in which you will get a option related to either disable the restart option or enable.............if it is enabled then u will get a option to disable it.......

The reason for this problem may be short circuit in USB port.
1) Check other USB drive connecting the same USB port of your computer. If it restarts then change the USB port or disable it.

1) Check your USB port connections,if you are using front panel port other than inbuilt port at backside of motherboard. If the wiring is wrong please reconnect.One wrong port may create problems to the whole computer.
2) The other reason may be non compatibility, port may be USB1.1 and you are inserting USB2 type, check it.
3) I don't think all devices may be faulty. If still you face the problems read motherboard configuration.
4) Try to update usb driver if possible.

The reason for this problem is .
If and only if the Virus is Present in your Computer as well as your USB device. The Virus is Executed independently restart your PC.
It may happen in Autorun.exe and combination of Other Virus.
1) First of all you install a good UPDATED Antivirus then scan your computer and also your USB device.

If problem with only one USB port:
Change the USB cable or socket.
May be the particular USB port is short on motherboard,so you need to check motherboard.
If problem with all USB ports:
Problem with motherboard.
System got virus:-Scan system with Norton/Bitdefender only.Clear system Registry.Re-install driver.
Your USB driver may be old,update with latest driver.
Check earthing.
If problem with only one component connection,component may have problem.

From your problem it is evident that your system is restarting itself when you are connecting USB to the system port.
The problem may be justified to 2 ways.
It may be of system's or it may be of USB's.
If the problem lies with in the system, check the port and try to clean it once.
If the problem still persists, your USB device may be affected by virus. Boot your system in safe mode and format the USB device through command prompt.
I assure that your problem will rectify.
