We define glaucoma as a thief of sight. When IOP(intra ocular pressure) may rise, optic disc cupping may rise and also visual field defect may occur we can suspect glaucoma. Sudden loss of vision, headache associated with eyestrain and blurred vision are the symptoms of glaucoma. Primary suspection of glaucoma curable, otherwise visual acuity hamper mostly. 'laser theraphy' and TRABECULECTOMY can prevent lossing of vision. But a glaucoma patient need always taking drugs like as Miotics, Acetazolamide, Artificial Tear etc. So i think consulting with opthalmologist and also glaucoma consultant at primary level can cure glaucoma.

Hello Vino
Glaucoma is a kind of ailment that possibly damages the optic nerve and results in vision loss and eventually blindness. This problem occurs when the normal fluid pressure inside the eyes gradually shoots up. Nevertheless, if you go for an early treatment, you might possibly protect your eye from total loss of vision.
That means that... the earlier you go for a treatment the more will be the possibility of your cure. The eye specialists and eye surgeons will treat the problem by surgery and medication that is possible if you go for it at the earliest.
If the patient has already lost his vision due to total damage of the optic nerve then there is no possibility of getting back the vision.
Hence, you should take the patient to a big eye hospital or to AIIMS, New Delhi or likes at many places in India and get the patient examined as soon as possible.

Glaucoma affects optic nerve. In this condition, intraocular pressure rises & causes mechanical or vascular damage. Blood supply to nerve gets affected. Intraocular pressure (IOP) is 1 of the factors which damages nerve. Glaucoma is a progressive disease of nerve which is to be controlled with eye drops or surgery ( trabeculectomy). There is no 100% cure. Glaucome can be open angle or angle closure type. Open angle type is dangerous as patient willn't have any symptoms & slowly it will damage nerve without his knowledge. By the time patient consults doctor, it may be in advanced stage. Side vision gets affected in glaucoma. Vision as such is not affected till in very late stage. So patient gets narrow visual fields often called as " tubular vision". To avoid this, all people above 40 years should get eyes checked. If there is a family history of glaucoma , one has more risk of getting it. In angle closure type, one gets recurrent attacks of redness, pain, watering. With each attack of rise in IOP, nerve gets damaged. One has to do gonioscopy, applanation tension, fields test to diagnose & monitor glaucoma.
