Swine flu is more or less same as general flu, but the only and main difference is that it is caused by a genetically modified ifluenza virus H1N1 virus which is resistant to normal anti viral drug amantadine and rimantadine.

The vaccine against the flu virus is also not effective in thin Swine flu virus, thus becomes very difficult to prevent.

The Swine flu viral outbreak started from Mexico and now has been widespread, even in India about 13 cases has been detected so far, all coming from US or Northern America. See details about Swine flu and the mode of its spread here Swine flu outbreak

Sign and symptoms are very much similar to other flus including respiratory distress, diarrhoea, vomitting etc. Thus it is necessary to detect as early as possible to keep the patient in isolation to prevent spread. Details of sign, symptom and diagnosis is given here Swine flu symptoms and diagnosis

Not only you but I appeal to all readers to take necessary steps to prevent our self and our country from this deadly disease, for prevention there are several easy steps to be followed which is detailed here Prevention from Swine flu

It's not really different from the "regular flu". And yes, some people are majorly overreacting.

The media is often creating unnecessary panic in gullible people by focusing on a variety of diseases that turn out to be no big deal. Anyone remember West Nile Virus? SARS? Bird flu? If you hardly do it's because not much ever came of any of those things. Take a clue, people.
